Dave’s Bio

I have been a partner with B2B CFO®; since 2009 and I provide CFO and business transition services for companies in numerous industries with up to $75 million in revenue. The two services are very complimentary, as CFO engagements often turn into business transition engagements. I enjoy working with owners as their CFO, enabling them to focus their energies on growing their business instead of managing the financial affairs of the company.

Here is a sample of engagements I’ve worked on:

CFO Engagements

  • Negotiated a new credit facility for a $7M entertainment industry company to help fund 20% growth.
  • Recruited & trained CFO/controller candidates for two fast-growing companies.
  • Provide industry benchmarking and cash flow modeling services for an exit planning firm.
  • Helped a mfg/distribution company implement a new accounting & inventory management system.
  • Implemented product/customer/rep profitability analysis using pivot tables for a $25M IT supply chain company.

Business Transition Services Engagements

  • Helped a national SaaS software company sell to a global strategic buyer.
  • Helped a $14M regional food company sell to a PE backed company as part of a national rollup.
  • Helped a $6M distribution company sell to a competitor.
  • Completed a strategic business plan for a SaaS software company resulting in a new exit strategy.
  • Worked with buyers/sellers to complete business valuation models and due diligence for a business broker.

I am a member of the Board of Directors and am President-elect for ACG Nebraska, and I lead their annual ACG Cup, which is an M&A case study competition for MBA students at Creighton, UNL, UNO & Bellevue Universities. I am also a member of the Nebraska Society of CPA’s (inactive) and the Pay It Forward Group.

Founder Jerry Mills’ Latest Article on CFO.com

Jul 22Dave Lemon

Congrats to our Founder Jerry Mills for his article about prepping financials for sale in CFO.com. Don’t let material balance sheet errors, insupportable earnings projections or revenue recognition errors stop a buyer from acquiring your company. This article is excerpted and adapted from chapter 19 of “The Exit Strategy Handbook: The Best Guide for Selling Your Business,” written by Jerry L. Mills, co founder of B2B CFO, a CFO services firm. The book guides owners of closely-held companies through the

Our firm has an exciting new book out, intended to address the coming “tsunami” of baby boomer owned businesses that will need to be sold in the coming decade, and how your business can still achieve a desireable exit in this buyer’s market. I think you will find this video and the book highly worthwhile.  Give me a call at 402-679-9680 and I can get you a copy.

Outsmart Obamacare – Go Protean

Jan 30Dave Lemon
Generating-Revenue-At-All-Costs-Tips

There was an interesting article from the WSJ today about how small companies might avoid the 50 employee ObamaCare threshold. It’s called a “Protean Corporation” where a small number of core employees are surrounded by a large cloud of resources, generally contracted or outsourced talent that does most of the work. A version of this article appeared January 29, 2013, on page A13 in the U.S. edition of The Wall Street Journal, with the headline: To Outsmart ObamaCare, Go Protean.

What Does a B2B CFO® Do?

Jan 11Dave Lemon

Hope everyone had a great holiday with your family and a good start to 2013. I had a chance to work with a number of really good clients in 2012, and  I also had a reminder about how powerful goal setting is; I received a check in the middle of December that got me to my exact goal for the year to the penny! Strategic Planning Made Simple

Oct 11Dave Lemon

Sharing another great article from B2B CFO® Mark Nuelle   Whether you are planning a personal strategy, a business plan or a production process, I have found that strategic planning follows the same steps. The first step in this process is to decide what is  important. What is your mission, your vision, your values? What are the guiding principles you will use to filter every decision you make? At B2BCFO® our values are honesty, integrity and objectivity. Once this is

Having Trouble Sleeping?

Oct 9Dave Lemon

One of the best things about being a B2B CFO®  partner is being able to connect with professional CFO’s from across the United States who share the same passion I do for helping businesses with their financial strategies and growth. This week, I am sharing an article written by B2B partner Anthony Valentino  from New Jersey. I’ll bet you’ll recognize the scenario he shares (I know I did).  Here’s to a good night’s sleep! – Dave What Keeps You Awake

To Share, or Not to Share?

Oct 8Dave Lemon

B2B CFO partner Mark Nuelle  from Connecticut shared this article with me. How do you feel?  Share the financials or not? To what extent? Sharing financial data with their company’s employees doesn’t come easy to many CFOs — even sharing it with their own finance team. Seventy-six percent of the 1,300 U.S.-based CFOs at private companies with 20 or more employees don’t state quarterly or annual financial updates with employees, a survey released this week by Robert Half Management Resourcesfound.
